Dust Collection Hose Clearance

I’m designing an enclosure for my new Shapeoko 5 Pro 2x4 and I’m wonder how much clearance I need above the machine itself for the dust collection hose to be able to maneuver about its work area? Is 12" enough?

I am pretty sure that such a low clearance will require a fairly elaborate mechanism to keep the hose from sagging down and interfering.

I would suggest mocking up the enclosure using the cardboard from the boxes the machine ships in and testing out how the hose runs, iterating until you arrive at something which suits.

If you want only fixed hose supports, I think you will need more than 12". If you could come up with some kind of sliding or travelling support, then that might work.

I have my hose on a swing arm. The height it’s at, plus how much the hose will stretch, allow it to reach the entire bed. This is for S3 XL.

If it was much lower, the hose would not be long enough to reach the entire bed.

This has been discussed on the forum and that is the height inside the enclosure. The dust collection is an important issue but being able to get inside to secure your projects and do your maintenance is actually more important.

The dust collection must reach all 4 corners of your spoilboard. So having your hose inlet high enough so you can get to all corners and not sag down into the path of the gantry is quite challenging. Not impossible but needs some trial and error. Now I only have an SO3 XXL but here is a picture of my “Diving Board” solution and as you can see it is fairly high up to get around my 32" x 32" spoilboard. I dont have the restrictions of fitting inside an enclosure so my setup could be streamlined but for me it works.
