Dust Collection Hose Sizes

I’ve planned to use a 2 1/2" hose for connection to the Sweepy on my new S5P installation. I’ve also seen many, many recommendations here for the DeWalt Stealthsonic shop vacs and it seems like a good fit for my shop. That said, all of the Stealthsonic models seem to have 1 7/8" hoses. Are you folks with the Stealthsonic vacs running a 1 7/8" hose all the way from the vac to the Sweepy with an adapter right on top of it? Or running a 2 1/2" hose and adapting to the smaller hose somewhere closer to the vac?

I use a 4" hose with slow transitions to 2 1/4 .
A piece of leftover shopvac pipe fits the Sweepy.
A transition for each end gets me to the Mullet cyclone.

Here is the transition.

I found the 4" hose is quieter, and does not get clogged up as much.

I have never changed the dust bag in my Stealthsonic. This is why: It will make the transition to 2.5" for you as well. (this and a 5 gallon bucket)

I will note that I use a cyclone as well, and that the 2.5" straight hose is far quieter than the tapered one I used before switching.

@MarkH

I have the 12 gallon, it has the 2.5” hose and fits the machine perfectly.

Right. The larger Stealthsonic models have the larger hose. That is why I went with it.

Here is a link to Wood Magazine that has a CFM requirement for various machines and a flow chart for different hose diameters…
