Edit text in Carbide Create

I am having trouble trying to edit text. I have read some of the other threads on editing, but I am still at a loss. I am in build 831 but can’t figure out how to change the font or any other aspects of the text without deleting it and starting over. My ultimate intent is to create one file and just change the name for different family members. I am sure there is some simple thing I am overlooking but have spent the last hour trying to figure it out without success. Thanks in advance for your help.

Select the text:

(and nothing else)

Click on the “Edit Text” icon again:

Edit as desired

I’d suggest using Alignment Center where appropriate:

Grrr, that is what I was doing, but a new ‘text’ line would open. I had not saved the file previously, so I am guessing that once I saved the file in order to attach it to my question, that then enabled the edit option. Live and learn. Thanks for your help.

File saved state should not affect text editability.

The big thing is only having a single text object selected.

Did you “Convert to Curves” after creating your text? If you did the text cannot be edited. I’ve had this happen a few times so I had to delete it and do the text over.

@Jeffish, I did that once, but after reading some of the prior “solutions” I started over and did not select the curve options. I really am not sure what I did or didn’t do now. All I know is that once Will provided the solution, the Carbide gremlins let me do what I had been attempting to do. LOL :person_shrugging:

When converting a text to curves I like to make a note of the text used and the size/spacing etc…

To make sure I see the note, I just use another text box placed off the job area in cc…

a really big one I cannot miss!

That way its easy to redo if neccesary…
helped me a few times for sure

Alternately, duplicate the text in place, make a layer with a suitable name, move the tex to that layer, then hide it, to be retrieved at need.

Thanks @Hhw and @WillAdams. Both great tips for me to keep in mind going forward. Everyday is a learning experience as I continue to expand my knowledge of the CNC world.
