Hi, I’m trying to get into vcarve inlays, and have been having a few (hundred) issues getting decent results. I’ve been doing some block M coasters, and have been having varying degrees of the corners being rounded over - as in it seems like the v bit takes too much off in the final pass in each corner, such that there’s not a clean 90, but a little bubble that protrudes from the corner. And this is the case at varying depths of cut (female pockets ranging from .25 to .1).
I’ve tried to eliminate any mechanical issues first by ensuring my unit (Shapeoko 3 XXL) is both square and level, confirmed there was no slop on the eccentric nuts/v wheels, I trammed the spindle and lubricated the Z-plus (pretty wild weekend).
While I’d welcome input on any likely culprits to this inlay issue, I’m also specifically interested in how new v bits should be entered into the Carbide Create library. I bought a 30 degree Whiteside v-bit, and have seen conflicting info online whether to enter the angle as 30 degrees, or use 15 degrees. It seems like the latter was how it was entered years ago in previous versions of CC, but I saw some later posts that I should enter 30 degrees as the listed angle - but nothing definitive/authorative that I could find. Thanks in advance!
