Currently the red and white icon showing where your zero point is does not tell if you are using stock top or bottom as your Z zero.
It would be nice to show a different icon. For example, red & white for using stock top or solid red for using stock bottom.
I think we’ll be adding the zero marker to the 3D simulation at some point to make it more clear.

Most people use the same X Y origins according to @robgrz in an earlier post. In the old days I used the top almost exclusively but now I almost always use bottom. The advantage of using bottom when cutting through material is my spoilboard is barely scratched after about 1.5 years. The only time I use top of material anymore is when there is no cut through.
I do like your idea of identifying top/bottom but everyone has different work flows and most of are creatures of habit.
