We recommend saving to local, not removable storage. Once a file is compleat it may then be copied to removable storage for backup or sneakernetting to the machine.
When working on complex projects, my preference is to regularly use File | Save as and append (replace) a description of the current state of the file at the end.
Are the files present in the Finder? Upload a problematic file here?
Thanks Will, here is a file with no importance as I was trying all possible solutions and just saved this to the external drive and will not open in CC.I have been putting every thing over to the external storage to keep the lap top free.I will change to your recommendation.
Trial Firefighter.c2d (12 KB)
Trial Firefighter.c2d (12 KB)
That file is just 12KB, but a simple circle:
is 44KB:
So it would seem that the hard drive is not fast enough to keep up or something.
What happens when you save to the local hard drive?
Hi Will.Thats interesting,Just made another simple one, saved to a USB and the Mac Book as well as the external. All opened back up but not the external drive?
That needs the thinking cap on?
Like many things, saving to a USB or removable drive works until it doesn’t.
Saving to the local hard drive your OS is installed on should be reliable — if it isn’t, check in at support.
Saving to the local hard drive is working, the other 2 are not working now,but when I have a look at the file I did yesterday and opened it up it reverts to CC 729?
I have just done another test circle on latest beta to desktop and it opened up ok but in 729,any clues what to do to stop this?
Are you sure your not opening 729 to open the file with?
Hi Tim,definitely not,I save the file using the latest beta, but if I click on the file it then opens up on 729.If I open the carbide create and then open the saved file it is in the current version.
Maybe just an issue with the Beta saying its saved as a 729, I thought this was posted here recently.
Neither of the above files opened in v7 when I tested that.
Moreover, a circle from 778 is still 44KB — it is necessary to go down to v6 to get a markedly smaller size of 4KB, and v6 files are in a text format, so obviously different from later versions.
Your computer’s file association for .c2d files must be pointing to 729.
Start CC 844 and use File → Open rather than clicking or double clicking on the file in file manager.
Or see the relevant support articles on file associations:

Thanks all,I have been saving direct to the LaCie external to keep the load away from the Mac Book, gone well up to the end of last week and all the issues started, so I will follow every ones suggestions and save to the Mac and then back up in the external.
There was a major up date towards the end of last week which makes me think.
Thanks all.
