Happy to say that with a little help from my friends, (i.e. you guys), I was able to successfully finish my first inlay project. Board is cherry, inlay walnut.

I bet that looks great in real life with a little shine to it. Kinda hard to see the contrast in the photo.

yes the board is end grain, however the inlay is long
JC: Sure. I just meant the board itself is nicely done. These many small pieces, all fitting properly: nice skillful precise work!
The inlay is the cherry on the cake! Great!
