Flipping Steel Belts

Given that the enemy of steel belts is most likely constant flexing, and that we probably tend to machine stuff in the same place on our machines, would it be a good idea to flip particularly the X axis around so as to flex another part of the belt?

Interesting idea. My inclination would be to instead just replace them on some reasonable schedule before the cables suffer metal fatigue.

Flipping the belts can lead to more headaches than it is probably worth. As Will said change them periodically, exercise them and then do a calibration after they are broke in. I dont have steel belts so I cannot tell you how long till they are broke in but most belts do their majority of stretching in the first hours of operation.
