This question has likely been presented before, but I could not find reference to it.
Is there an attachment I can add to my router that would allow a bit to “float” through a spring-loaded nose cone that rides on standard 2ply engraving stock? On my previous engraving equipment, the depth of cut was set several thousands below the surface so the floating cutter was precisely controlled by the nose cone riding on the surface. It might look something like these pictures:
Are you trying to do this with “any” bit? If you’re doing typical drag engraving, tips like this (with spring inside) work well - https://www.amazon.com/RDZ-DEGREE-DIAMOND-ENGRAVING-TOOL/dp/B082S332GZ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=diamond+engraver+bit+1%2F4"&qid=1612119126&sr=8-5
and require no modification to the system other than working around any BitSetter/ Z zeroing issues. They are very simple mechanically -
Thanks Dan, but no, I want to be able to make routed, standard 2-ply plastic nameplates like these:
The nose cone rides on the surface.
