For us newbies, setting up our machine

For our newbies, like myself.

There are some procedures we have to learn to make this endeavor successful.

He has a lot to learn also.

sounds like he discovered the secrets of tramming, and -seriously- I cannot support it more!

Yes, I have lots to learn.
I’m just glad there is a community like this one to be a part of.

Well a couple of highlights.

Level is meaningless you can mount the machines vertical on a wall if you wanted to. It all just needs to be on the same plane.

You don’t need any special bit to resurface waste boards. You can use any bit you have including the one that shipped with the machine. Large fly cutters just save time.

I appreciate your reply, Ryan.

Level, at least in my case, means level to the gantry path - or any other reference point that can reasonably be used.

In reference to your comment about the wall. Yes, level is a relevant term here. We could mount the machine to the ceiling and operate it.

A “level playing field” is what I am referring to in my post.
I feel pretty confident that most everyone else probably recognizes this.

Yes, we could level, or surface, the deck with a bit that sports a tip the size of a needle, but I doubt anyone would ever try that.

I doubt anyone wants to spend 36 hours flattening the deck.

Thanks for clarifying things.
