I have noticed on my S4 Pro with Z Plus and C3D router that as the bit is lowered at the BitSetter for measurement the Z axis makes a “grumbling” or gravelly sort of sound.
This only happens when lowering at the BitSetter. Raising there is fine and all other Z movements are fine.
Is there something special about the way it is lowered at that point to cause this?
Check that everything in your z-plus is tight. When my machine was new, after assembling and using it a bit I noticed that my z mounting plate to the carriage had several loose bolts from the factory (ones that were not part of assembly by the end-user). I never heard a gravely noise, but what you describe could be some loose hardware. Good luck
Check your Z-axis motor connectors. An intermittent/poor connector issue can cause the steppers to make weird & unexpected vibrations & noises without obviously/visually looking like it.
