Im trying to model a fallout terminal and I need a custom domed glass for the screen.
Thats pretty cool. Not sure if anyone has done one of that size (presuming ‘real life-ish’ size terminal with a clear lens) and would require a lifetime of polishing to make I suspect. In my what I would try to do is cnc out a form with that shape and then heat and mold a clear acrylic sheet over the form? Maybe someone else has a better plan.
If the piece is small enough I would probably try and “just” carve it out of a single piece of thick acrylic, then sand it back to transparency (up to 3000 grit + a little torching at the end)
You might be interested in this. It looks like it’s possible.
The idea is to have it be in the realm of 4.5 inches wide and 3 inches tall. ( to fit just over the bezels of a tft50 screen)
Thanks will take a nice read into this.
From my experience, I would mill out a piece that matches the shape you want as a mold blank, smooth to your liking here. Then cast a silicone mold. Then when the mold is ready use a clear epoxy to fill the mold. Way less polishing on the finished piece.
