I’m installing the hdz on my shapeoko 3 XXL I bought in June 2019. It tells me to skip the proximity switch cable install through the drag chains but then has me install the switch cables to the new hdz carriage.
Am I just reusing the old limit switches on my machine or am I missing something ?
Which Z-axis did you have? If a Z-Plus, then yes, re-use, if belt-drive w/ mechanical switches, replace.
If your question is can you use the mechanical switches on an HDZ the answer is no. The HDZ requires the proximity switches and has no way to trigger the mechanical switches.
Here is a picture of my 3XXL with HDZ and the proximity switch. My machine started out life with the mechanical switches and I upgraded to the proximity switch. I made the upgrade at the same time I got the HDZ. Opening the drag chain links is a pain but well worth the upgrade.
In the picture on the right is a custom piece I made to support my dust collection tube. That is not part of a standard HDZ.
In the picture you can see the bracket that holds the HDZ Z proximity switch. I dont think there is a provision for the mechanical switches.
