Help connecting nodes

I can not get the nodes to connect. When I click on the open vector and then hit shift and click on the barber poll it will not bring up the join tool. Can anyone give me advice on how to make this plaque? Without joining the entire thing together I can’t create a toolpath to cut it out. I have the open vector’s end nodes sitting right on top of nodes of the barber polls but can’t connect.

You can only connect nodes that represent the end point of a vector. The selected (the orange) vectors do not start/end at the points where the open vectors start/end.

It depends on how you plan to cut it. If you need a contiguous outside boundary, either use trim vector, or create a complete rectangle over the open lines and use boolean operations.
