I’m trying to cut a sign. It’s MDF painted and sealed. I did one before and it came out great, but this time a little bit of the oramask came off. So after it’s done, I’d like to put the oramask back on in the places that it came off and just recut it but don’t want to cut the entire thing again. So thinking I can just cut like .01" down or something with a V-bit. But playing around in Carbide Create, it seems to be cutting on the inside or something. So what is the best way to cut just the top again - it’s a v-carve so I know I need to use the v-carve bit again. I was thinking of either trying another v-carve @.01 depth or just doing a contour cut on the outside with the v-bit but I think I have to trick the bit to be really fine so it stays on the line. I’ve uploaded a picture here.
Yes, re-running a toolpath with limited vcarve depth, after re-applying your oramask on that part, should do the trick. Ideally don’t power down the machine and don’t re-home.
Now if you want to re-cut that area only, you will have to do a little boolean magic in CC to limit the re-generated vcarve toolpath.
boolean intersect,
and re-generate vcarve toolpath for that area only:
If it’s just a small area like you are showing in the picture you could also just put the oramask on and cut it with a razor blade along the edges. I have done that before with good results since as Julien discusses I had already power down my machine and I didn’t want to mess the entire sign up
OK - thanks to everyone for your help. I was able to cut some of them again, but on some, I could not get the Oramask to stick - I’ll make sure I do at least 2 coats of clearcoat next time. But I was able to cut some with a razor blade and hand paint a bit. So many lessons learned but I’m getting there. Here is how it turned out.
