Help please initialization issue

Hello all

I sent this to support but I am posting here, hoping someone can help me diagnose.

Hello again

I’m currently using a Mac mini V - Tahoe 26.5

Motion 656. I’ve tried several difference builds, just incase that was the issue.
Note: I had the latest beta installed when this issue presented itself.

When I initialize the machine, or try too. The Z responds up and down, then the gantry moved to the back (only an inch, because it’s already back) But it sounds like it’s fighting its self. It hits the back right corner and just sits there with a loud humming sound.

Attached, please find a short video and a picture of the setup screen where I’m supposed to test the step motors before initializing the machine.

I have unplugged and replugged each connector at the black control box, as well as the individual wires at the stepper motors on the right side.
I checked to make sure there aren’t any bent pins in the connectors, none found.

I fired up an old windows 10 laptop and installed the latest motion software, used the factory supplied “printer cable”, same issue.

I have been looking for an indication of a jamb or pinched wire or something but I’m finding nothing.

I just realized there is a red light on on the right side of the gantry, pic attached.

I was thinking the limiter switch for the Y right is malfunctioning thenI got the Error Meg below.

Please help!

Error msg: after manually moving the gantry forward and the spindle down.

I initialized the machine and it made the humming sound then stopped and popped this error.

HM010: The machine could not find the Y2 homing switch.

This could be caused by:

  • Mechanical problems jamming a machine axis
  • The gantry starting out of square
  • A malfunctioning homing switch

Please try the initialization process again.

This is equivalent to GRBL Alarm 10.

Video:

When homed correctly you should see 3 red LED’s, X1 (in your photo), Y1 (right rear rail from front of machine) and Y2 (left rear rail from front). Y1/Y2 are on the very rear of the rails. All of them should be on when homed. On the Wizard setup screen is where you can check the switches to function correctly. With the machine down powered, move the X axis slowly to the mid point of the Y rails (slowly), then move the Z axis to the mid point of the Y rails. At this point the spindle should be roughly centered over the spoil board. Power up machine, do not initialize yet. Enter the setup wizard again for the homing switches, you can then hold a metal hex wrench or the collet wrench next to the homing switches and the red led shoukd illuminate and it will indicate in the setup wizard as your photos shows for the Y and Y2. One of my switches was bad and had the change and all was well.

Thank you very much for the instruction.
The problem was the x limiter was lighting up but the computer wasn’t registering the condition.

Problem solved with the assistance of Oscar and the spare limiter that came with the machine.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
My eldest son passed away and as can be imagined, everything has gone haywire around here.

Thank you all.
This is a great community!
