Homing cycle fail - Z Motor or connector?

Just finished assembling my XXL and powered it on. Z Motor started buzzing rhythmically. When I went to attempt to home it the error came out:

Error(x) Homing Cycle Failed, Error(x) GRBL Error: Homing Failed, couldn’t find limit switch.

A little research said to check wiring and make sure Z cable goes to Z connector and then also check continuity. As I was doing this I noticed the green and the black wires were out of place with the X motor wire harness and appeared to be reversed (See Pic. You can see the x motor harness in the foreground). Is this correct?

Lastly, when powered on I was able to move the z motor up and down.

Thoughts and thanks!

Sometimes the motors are delivered with the wires in the wrong order — all wiring extensions should be straight through, and all wiring connectors should be consistent, stepper motors may be reversed in several ways:

  • swap the left and right pair of wires
  • reverse the ordering of the wires in the left or the right pair
  • reverse all four wires

Do whichever is appropriate to match the other wiring connectors — use a small tool to pop out the wiring lead pins and when reinserting them, make certain that they click into place. See: http://www.pcbheaven.com/exppages/Reuse_and-or_extend_the_Molex_connectors/

That did it! Swapped the wires and it’s in business!! Thanks for the quick response!
