Am I doing something wrong? When I use a v cutter I don’t get a clean cut. Tool path is vcarve and stock is pine.
Pine is very soft and doesn’t always cut very clean. Get some clear contact shelf paper and cover the top before you cut. This may help. Or Try a little harder wood like poplar.
…or fill the letters with something that will seal & bind the wood, and re-run the cut. (tommorow
)
Not knowing the specs. you are running, I’d suggest the following:
- New tool. Depending how often you have run the current tool.
- Shallower D.O.C. (depth of cut)
- Change of medium. As stated previously pine is very soft.
Even harder wood can have its own quirkiness when cutting.
Trial and error / experience is best when trying to figure some of these little faults in woodworking.
Good luck!
What v cutters would you suggest to purchase? I do want cutters that last.
For the life of me I can’t find it but, I saw a video on YouTube that had the first down cut V-Bit. I personally would like to try that one.
I normally just go to the hardware store and get a new router V-bit. But I’m a cheap a$$ that way.
Others may have a different perspective though.
The #301 and #302 from Carbide 3D have held up well for me.
I also got a Diablo V endmill from Home Depot which survived my abusing it in cutting aluminum (ISTR it had a flat tip)
