I am new to this and I am trying to place 5 objects on the board. how can this be done?
I set up multiple pieces within the Cam software; whether I’m using carbide create or fusion 360. I just draw all five pieces, Do the cam, Save the file, and then Run the file.
In Carbide Create you can import files using the Library icon:
Once you have all the object imported you can then assign Toolpaths.
If I understand you are trying to make 5 things at once on the same piece of material. If that is the case and you use the same bit for each of the 5 objects you can save your gcode into one file. If you are using different bits then disable all toolpaths but the tool path you want to cut and save the gcode with a unique name. Then you can run only the single toolpath, change for the next tool path and zero and just load 5 gcode files one at a time and cut the 5 objects from the same work piece. Sometimes after you disable a toolpath and save the one your want the order moves around. So make sure any cutouts are moved to the bottom of the list. You always want to make the least invasive cuts first and any cutouts last to keep your pieces in place to keep them from go flying around the room. Your Shapeoko will keep the zero from the first tool path as long as you have not disconnected or powered down the Shapeoko. If you Pause then Stop your Shapeoko will try to home before you can proceed but your origin will remain in the memory. I cut multiple boxes this way on different boards and it speeds up production if you are making the same thing over and over but on different boards.
Nice explanation!
To expand on this, if you’re using a tool other than Carbide Create, this is termed “step and repeat” in most CAM tools in case you’re using one which directly supports this.
