I just updated to Carbide Create Build 831, Built on: 2025-09-19 Free Edition (MacOS). It seems like the layers view has been redesigned. When I click “L” I get a warning saying the layers view is always open. But there are no layers listed and there is no obvious way of adding new layers. How do i add a new layer with this new build of the software?
Hmm, when I created a new file the default layer with a menu for editing layers was visible. Apparently there’s a bug that hides that tool… somehow? No big deal for me since I had just started my project so it’s easy enough to switch to the new file.
FYI here is the file that is missing the layer components.

It shouldn’t be possible to have a file with no DEFAULT layer.
Do About | Carbide Create | Open Data Directory and send us the .json file, then delete it and relaunch Carbide Create — does that then restore normal operation?
I was able to copy-paste the geometry into a new file:

Hi Will, thanks so much for giving that a try. Yeah I was able to get around the issue in the same way. Thanks! I’m not sure what was wrong with the initial file. ![]()
I am observing the same issue in build 831

When I close Create and re-open I see the default layer. When I go to recent files and open the attached c2d file the default layer is not visible.
I also can’t find default layer. I have 2 .json files in “about carbide create”
I am going crazy since UPDATING. Wish I never…
To address this sort of thing, launch Carbide Create:
Import External Files:
Then check the dimensions of the original file:
