How to anchor gears as I cut through the parent sheet

How do I keep a gear from moving and being damaged as I cut through the bottom on the parent sheet. I want to make clock gears from Baltic birch plywood

Can jo mill out the hole for the shaft and use a screw here to fasten the part? :slight_smile:

OR…Use double sided tape to home the material or hot glue as I do. (See my youtube video)

Thank you for your suggestions and also the video. I tried making a center hole and using a screw to cut out a simple square and it worked great. I will now try a gear. I also plan to try the hot glue system on the video.
