How to CAM Multi Section Cuts with Shapeoko 3 XXL and Fusion 360

I love the size of the Shapeoko 3 XXL however sometimes I need to go even bigger.

Luckily, as long as the piece is smaller in width than the x-axis you can keep sliding it back along the y axis and divide the design to be cut into multiple sections. For basic stuff this has been working out great and I made a sweet shelf this way.

However, now that I am learning to use Fusion 360 more for the CAD and CAM I am curious how to do this with that software?

First off, am I using the right search terms? Is this called something more fitting than “multi section cuts”?

Anyways, I am curious if there is an established way to do this? Ideally I would like to do this in the manufacture workspace as I can imagine some hacky ways to do it in the design workspace but I’d rather do it properly.

Thank you for any tips and tricks!

I believe you are looking for “tiling”?

To do tiling in Fusion 360, I create a sketch with slightly overlapping rectangles that represent the size of the cut area. You’ll create a new setup, with a new origin, for each rectangle and use the rectangles to define your machining boundary. Then use whatever registrations make sense for the job (pins, fence, etc)

Thank you for the search term. “Tiling” makes sense although I was not aware of the application of that word to this problem.

Looking around it seems as though many have posted on how to do this and I will engage those resources now that I know what to search for!

Thank you!

For what it is worth this is one of the best videos I found on the subject.

@CaseyS Here’s a really simple example of Fusion 360 tiling I did on my SO3. It’s about 4ft long…I cut it from PVC.
