My Shapeoko 4 XXL has been running for quite a long time now, and I believe it’s definitely time to replace the belts and wheels. I’ve started noticing some small cracks and wear on a few of them, so I’d rather take care of it now before it becomes a bigger issue.
However, I haven’t been able to find clear information or a proper guide on how to use the Shapeoko Maintenance Kit or what exact steps I should follow during the replacement process.
Could anyone here guide me on how to properly install the new belts and wheels? Any tips, tutorials, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
It’s fairly simple. I referenced the manual for disassembly as I forgot the order of how everything went together. Just follow it backwards to dismantle the belts and X-Axis. Then change the V-Wheels one by one till they’re all replaced. Be sure to scrape/wipe the gunk off the x and y rails where the v-wheels ride on.Then get the X-Axis back onto the machine and install the new belts. I used an app to measure the tension of the belts via frequency to ensure they’re the same tension. I don’t remember the frequency they should be but if you search, there’s an extensive write up on belt tension on here.
I wouldn’t replace the pulleys if they aren’t worn or damaged. They’re difficult to remove from the stepper motors. I don’t think it’s worth the effort.
