I cant get Vcarve to recognize text in a file

I have been asked to make a sign for a friend based on the Hobbit. I can’t get the toolpath to recognize the text.

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure what the text is. I can select it but it is blurred slightly. What is the source of the “text”. Maybe it is just open vectors with the vcarve tool path?

Your vectors are built very weirdly. The little accent above the ‘o’:

Turns out, each node is doubled. When you pull it apart, you get:

So the vector starts at the top-left, winds its way around the figure to the same spot, does not connect, then winds it’s way back to the original spot.

It’s a closed vector, but the only thing it ‘encloses’ is the line itself. You can fix it with a lot of hand editing, or experiment with the source of the text to see if you can get a better result.

Definitely a problem with the font:

Once one edits down to only what is necessary:

Done

then Join Vectors:

That would need to be done for every doubled-up outline.

Once a vector element is fixed, then it cuts as expected:

Once all the geometry is fixed:

It all previews as expected:

If you still have the original file as imported into Carbide Create, please send it to support@carbide3d.com — curious as to how this was made to occur.

I sent it in. If I can get you to scratch your head and wonder, I did real good!

Thanks!

You sent in a .png file? Apparently that was then traced? Using what tool? Did you make note of the settings?

I am not sure how I managed to do it. I just tried importing the png and tracing it. It worked perfectly.
Thanks for your time and expertise
