Would you buy the Shapeoko Pro XXL or OF journeyman? I have the Pro XXL and I have put it through it’s paces. Replaced the belts and Vwheels already(8 months into owning), one of the bearing plates, all three limit switches(and they still don’t function properly). I am seriously considering buying the OF journeyman and moving on from Shapeoko. Customer service has been great, and this forum is awesome, I just wonder if this thing is built for daily use.
I’m a bit confused — do you mean that you have an SO4 or SO3 and are considering a Pro?
The Pro doesn’t have V wheels.
Note that the machine only has homing switches — there aren’t additional switches at the distal ends for limits — if the homing switches aren’t working, that’s usually either a matter of wiring or adjustment. Let us know at support@carbide3d.com and we’ll get this sorted out.
This is the wrong place to ask an opinion like this. Here people are biased about Shapeoko. On the OneInfinity site they are biases on the OF machines.
I see people have problems with new machines but they are usually resolved quickly. As far as quality C3D has had one major problem and that is they are growing fast and mistakes have been made. Wiring up cabling seems to be the most often reported problem. Fortunately they have made their no fault warranty available and even if it was your fault they will fix it. As far as hardware there seems to be few failures of controllers, motors, bearings or belts, at least not reported here.
Running a business on a CNC requires you have a reliable machine. Customers dont want to hear any excuses about how your machine is broken or whose fault that is. So in the end only you can decide which machine is best for you. If you have not already done so go and join the Oneinfinity forum and you will see that they have issues just like C3D.
Unfortunately there are no perfect machines made. I like this forum and the service provided by C3D. If you are not happy then sell your machine on craigslist and buy something else. But asking on this forum which machine you should have I think you will get the majority answer of Shapeoko.
