Hello, I’m new to CNC and this whole process. I bought a used Shapeoko with no instructions or anything. I think its the 3/XL that has a wasteboard that’s 42"x40". I got it assembled and am trying to use it. I watched all the videos and such. Created a file to test on some foam. I have the bitsetter v1.
I initalize the machine, set my zeros to the middle of the foam, 27"x15" and am merely trying to cut a circle in the middle of the thing. When I go to run the job the router runs to the back right corner of the machine, drops to the wasteboard and wants to start cutting there.
My file is a circle that is .25" cut from bottom of .75" foam. I’m not sure what’s going on, why it doesn’t jump over the foam and start cutting.
To verify which machine you have/see instructions see:
Note that the 16" working area along the Y-axis includes the overhang cutting area at the front of the machine — it may be that you are setting the origin too far back to cut out the circle.
Where is the origin set in the file?
That has to match where you are setting relative to the stock, see:
If you continue to have difficulties, post your .c2d file, generated G-code (if applicable), step-by-step notes on how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing all tool changes and a photo showing an attempt at cutting still in place on the machine.
Sounds like an xxl not xl. If you have not sent the config start with that. Connect to machines ne but do not initalize. Go to settings. In first tab pick machine and z type. The are 3 z types. The oldest is belt z, then leadscrew z-plus, them hdz ball screw. Likely a belt z or Z+plus. Then go to second tab uncheck BitSetter. You will set that up layer. Go back to first tab and send config. You will get a confirmation. Initalize. Then go to jog and in rapid positions send to center position. Go back in jog and set zero tab. Zero x and y but not z. Jog router to front or use rapid position. Then select x y zero and see if router goes back to center.
If you selected wrong machine that limits where you can jog.
Awesome help and thank you so much. I was reading too much into the program and forgot to reset my zero locations. I ditched the bitzero and did it myself which seems much easier. Thank all yall again!
