Inlay material removal

How do I create a tool path for removing excess inlay material?

Just make a pocket which will remove the inlay down to the stock surface of the part which the inlay is being applied to.

Thanks so much. I think your referring to Winston’s tutorial. He mentioned a rough 3d path; I clicked on the bad boy and the path filled into the grid and performed nicely

A word of caution, I like to leave just a paper thin layer and sand it off from there. For me just enough always seems to be just a little too much. By sanding off the last little bit you have more control over cutting it of on the CNC.

If you over cut your inlay can become deformed by cutting off too much of the surface.

Fpr epoxy inlay I do the same thing. I use my drum sander to get down to just an onion skin layer left and finish with an random orbit sander starting at 120 grit and go up to the finish grit of 220 or 320.

Famous last words is I think I will give it one more pass and that turns out to be one too many.
