I did a contour heart shape using a 60 degree v bit. I can not figure out how to do an inlay for the heart which is just an outline. Is this possible?
So you have the shape on the left & want to cut the shape on the right??
You’ll need to add a boundary outside of the male to contain a V-carve path. If the heart is not symmetrical you’ll have to mirror it. And you probably want to cut a bit deeper than the female pocket.
Create a V-carve path using both the large square & the heart, and another just using the heart.
Don’t forget to flip the job, ie, mirror it. Even if the vector appears symmetrical, it can still be slightly off.
Correct I have the left and can’t get the image on right. I have tried a square bigger than the heart.
Sooo, I did not do a vcarve path. I did a contour. No offset Is this why?
You could do two no offset contours, but you’d have to offset the vector in both directions, and calculate the distance & depth. Then you would have to clean out the area away from the vectors somehow. You may also be able to do a contour with offset if the tool diameter is correct.
I did an offset 1/2 outside and inside. It gave me a pocket but it did not fit. To small of outline. Pocket depth looked good and gap.
I find it helpful to draw up a side/section view to help determine the distances for offset, depth and/or tool diameter
