Issues with spoilboard surfacing

I’m a first time poster here but a long time lurker. I received a shapeoko xxl for Christmas. I have

I’m not sure if one issue is related to the other but maybe I can get them both resolved.

I’ve previously trammed and surfaced my spoilboard without issue. I decided to resurface my spoilboard.

I created the pocket toolpath using vcarve. I used a 1" Whiteside spoilboard surfacing bit. Depth of .02 with 40% step over at 100 ipm. The toolpath was set to raster with a cutting the perimeter last.

Everything was perfect until the last perimeter pass. The z axis (zplus) has some play in it. It’s able to move up and down even with power to the steppers. It also appears that the z is slipping occasionally. I wasn’t able to capture video of the z slipping. I was able to capture the Play in the z axis. Any suggestions on posting video?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Check the bolts and wheels. If there is play, there is a mechanical issue - could be wheels, pullley on the Z axis stepper, belt, etc.

Try and determine whether the slop is between the Z-plus and the X rail (in which case it could be a loose vwheel) or between the front plate and main plate of the zplus (less likely I think)
