I suggest you buy a cheap 10-pack of single flute 1/8" endmills to practice (hint: you’ll break one or two anyway before you get the hang of it, they might as well be cheap). Here’s a random example.
Once you are comfortable with the machine/workflow, for acrylic I love using the Amana single flute (#51411-K, as included for example in this Amana kit on the C3D store)

As long as the endmill has a length of cut greater than your material thickness, you are good to go for profile cuts, regardless of endmill diameter. You may need to take multiple passes of course.
