Hi, I’m new to Carbide Create Pro and I’m confused on Job Setup in Carbide Create and Add Shape in Carbide Create Pro. In 2D projects, Job Setup is where you define your stock size including stock thickness. Is Job Setup including Stock Thickness this still required when designing 3D projects? It appears Carbide Create Pro Add Shape ignores stock measurements including thickness as defined in Job Setup because you have to create 3D Shapes separately. Is there a way to use the stock defined in Job Setup as the base to add/subtract from in 3D Add Shape commands?
Thanks
Matt
Job Setup defines the maximum extent of the Stock/3D model.
It works to use the “T” value (for Stock Thickness) when defining a 3D model in terms of the Height parameter:
Apply
Show 3D
If you want the entire stock, then the usual approaches are:
- draw a rectangle equal to the 2D extents of the Stock, then model that to the Stock Thickness and only subtract
- model such a rectangle to some useful dimension and then only (or mostly) add
Ok Will. So are you saying that the design tab controls the project parameters…for example, if you define your stock thickness at 1 mil in the design tab, adding a 15 mil shape in 3D model tab will not increase the stock thickness and any 3D toolpaths above the 1 mil stock thickness defined in the design tab will not work of just cut air. My confusion is coming from Kevin’s Add Shape video. Kevin’s video does address the design tab to set stock size and thickness first but jumps right into Add Shape to define project size and thickness. Is it correct that if Kevin’s stock was set at 1 mil in the design tab, his entire Add Shape video would create nothing.
Thanks
Matt
The 3D finish toolpath will cut across the top of the stock (set in design - settings) unless there is a portion of the 3D model lower than the top of stock, then it will only cut that portion.
If you want a 15mm shape, set the stock to 15mm (or a little greater)
Modeling builds from the table (bottom of stock) up. If you create a 15mm component with a 1mm stock thickness, the Show 3D in modeling will show the top 14mm red, indicating it’s above your stock.
Here I’ve modeled a 1.0" model on 0.75" stock. The toolpath will just cut the top of the stock flat
Thanks Tod1d. I appreciate the explanation & I understand now.
