King ColorCore Cutting Issues

Hello Everyone,

I’m struggling with my 60 or 90-degree V bits cutting Colorcore HDPE, which leave pulled fibers on the floor despite clean walls.

I’ve researched that this might be due to the V bit’s pointed pulling rather than cutting. I’ve noticed Ryan from CIC workshop and ToolsToday use similar V bits, possibly of higher quality. Could anyone offer advice or suggest a V bit set that works well with ColorCore HDPE?

I’ve experimented with RPMs between 14,000-20,000, IPM from 150-200, and chiploads of 0.003-0.007, starting with King’s (the colorcore HDPE manufacture) recommended settings. I am also carving on 0.25” Colorcore with depth of cuts no deeper than 0.100”. My CAM software is just Carbide Create Core and I’m using a Shapeoko 5.1 Pro with the 1.2kW spindle upgrade. The V bits im using are the #301 and #302 carbide bits from Carbide3D in their starter bit kit.

I’ve attached photos for reference. If need any further information please let me know.

Thank you!

The only small V tooling I’ve tried are the 1/8" diameter Kyocera ones which Oliver Tooling (formerly drillman1) sells on eBay.

but I haven’t had occasion to try them in colorcore — I’ve just always used a smaller square tool when I’ve needed greater detail:
