Can’t tell if this is a bad idea or a terrible idea.
Was just gifted a Creality Falcon Pro 2 laser engraver. It’s bigger than I thought and space is at a premium in my garage.
My Shapeoko sits on a table put together with the Kreg system, and there is a “lower level” where I have a shelf made out of plywood sheeting. Mostly keep random assorted junk down there, like extra clamps, bits, etc.
So, how dumb is it to put the laser down there? Pic attached
It depends on how stable the table is. While running the CNC and the printer at the same time could make the printer unstable. The CNC can sway the table. If the table is stable enough it wont hurt anything but dust could be a problem.
Good points. I don’t actually plan on running them at the same time, in fact I probably can’t until the subpanel in my garage gets upgraded because everything is running off a single 15 amp breaker right now.
The table does shake when running the CNC, and as soon as I have the time I am planning on adding front to back diagonal cross braces, it looks like the Kreg legs already have holes I can use.
I was more concerned with accidentally causing a fire, or the particulates in the air? Does that happen with the laser tools? Would hate to torch my CNC machine.
I did get a “fume extractor” for the laser engraver, which should hopefully help with keeping the air relatively clean.
It looks like you have enough head space to lift the laser lid and get projects in/out. If you have the room height wise I would put a pull out shelf that would allow the laser to be at least partially pulled out to use. This would allow plenty of space and ventilation around the unit and allow you to observe the operation and stop it if you had any issues you mentioned above.
