I just sold my Shapeoko 3 and ordered a Shapeoko 4, and one of the open questions for me seems to be how to level it. I put the Shapeoko 3 on a 2" x 4" butcher block from McMaster-Carr that I leveled with feet I also got from McMaster-Carr, so it won’t be a problem to get the new machine level too… except now I don’t have an interface between the new machine and the butcher block. The old machine had feet; is the new machine just supposed to rest on the flat surface?
Would it be a problem to secure my Shapeoko 4 to the butcher block in some way? I’ve watched the assembly video on YouTube several times, and there don’t appear to be any opportunities to lag the machine down. Increasing the mass by attaching it to a heavy, solid and flat butcher block seems like a no-brainer to me, but I don’t want to do anything counter to the machine’s design.
I would secure it by replacing the leveling feet w/ all thread, then putting a pair of jam nuts at the to level the machine and then a coupler and the leveling feet at the bottom if there wasn’t something I could further connect the butcher block to.
mine didn’t come with leveling feet, I just made the table level.so far it doesn’t slide around at all, but if it does I’m just going to brace the machine on the edges
