Looking for a Better Dust Boot Solution for My Shapeoko 4 XXL (Spindle + HDZ)

Hey everyone,

I’m the owner of a Shapeoko 4 XXL equipped with a Spindle and HDZ, and I’ve been struggling to find a proper dust boot solution for my setup.

Right now, I’m using the Sweepy 2.0 that came with my machine. It does its job and is definitely better than nothing, but the suction performance isn’t great, especially on the first passes or when doing finishing toolpaths with a tapered ball nose. The main issue is that it’s impossible to lower the Sweepy 2.0 enough because of the very limited surface area where it can attach (I also would prefer not lowering a lot more because it could crash/interfere with my piece). At the moment, it’s basically holding on by a single screw.

I’ve also looked into independent Z-axis dust boots, and found two main options:

Suckit Dust Boot, which unfortunately is no longer being made.

PWNCNC Dust Boot, which I actually bought, but it turned out to be incompatible with my particular machine (they eventually removed the option from their site and kindly refunded me).

So now I’m back to square one. I’d love to just get a Sweepy Pro, but sadly it’s only compatible with the Shapeoko 5.

Has anyone here found a good alternative or a creative workaround for this?
Any ideas or recommendations would be super appreciated!

Here is a video where you can watch my current setup in action:

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you’ve looked into this already, but it sounds like you want the deep sweep from C3D, intended to address this issue : Deep Sweep for Sweepy 2.0 Dust Boot - Carbide 3D

Hope this helps!

Ohhh yes, that would totally help! What I’d really love to find though is a Z-independent one for my machine, that would save me from the nightmare of it crashing into my workpiece. But if I can’t find one, this would definitely be the best option.

The bonus on the deep Sweepy is that the gentle curve makes the airflow much quieter than the sharp angle on the regular Sweepy.

I always have the deep on my machine and only switch to the regular when the depth of pocket and height of material warrant it.

When using the regular Sweepy I was constantly adjusting the position of the Sweepy on the router. I almost never adjust it anymore.
