Looking for tool database documentation

Hello, I’m new to CNCing and trying to create a library for some new Amana bits I recently purchased but am having trouble determining what each column is for. Is there any documentation available?

Some examples that I’m having trouble determining:
Is cutpower the same as chip load per tooth?
What are the 3D params used for? Is this for 4th axis operations?
Is plunge rate the same as ramp down rate?

Thanks!

I learned a lot by trying g-wizard, it helps calculate CBC speed, and a lot more. There is a trial version and subscription versions.

Have you seen the examples in Carbide Create library ? It has 5 or 6 Amana cutters in there.

Feeds & speeds to be used for a given [cutter;material] combination are a topic by itself, but you should be able to determine decent settings by mimicking the values of a cutter in the library that has:

  • the same geometry (square or ball or V)
  • the same diameter
  • the same number of flutes

If you are interested in chiploads and cutting power and stuff like that, here’s a link you may find useful:
https://shapeokoenthusiasts.gitbook.io/shapeoko-cnc-a-to-z/feeds-and-speeds-basics

“3D feeds and speeds” in CC are for the 3D roughing/3D finishing in Carbide Create Pro
(so no link with a 4th axis, the Shapeoko does not support a 4th axis anyway)

Plunge rate in CC is how fast it moves along Z into the material. CC only supports straight/vertical plunge, but other CAM tool allow ramps (linear, helical,…) into the material, and then they may call it “ramp down rate”

There is a bit at:

https://docs.carbide3d.com/support/#tooling-support

and there is a bit more at: https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/Endmills

and see

and

MeshCAM users should see: https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/MeshCAM#TPS_files
