So I’ve been using GSender and it may very well be the cause of the issue… (glad to see previews in CM and I’ll be transitioning to it right away)
While running a file during the middle of the run the gantry just randomly shot straight to the front of the machine and started making a grinding noise. I immediately stopped the machine. Not sure what was grinding as I’ve got a Venturi, compressor, vacuum and the spindle running. Afterwards i jogged the machine all over with no issues. Think it was a glitch with the software.
Anyways… now my machine is slightly off. I use fixtures for production runs with a set XY zero in the machine space. Any idea what happened to the machine and if it’s recoverable? I’m off by a fraction of a mm but the product is unusable…
I’ve already ordered blanks to make all new fixtures and the BitZero v2 so that moving forward I can zero xyz off the fixture at each change. Hoping this will prevent this for ever happening again… can i expect the BitZero v2 to consistently and accurately find XY? I’m making cover plates that have holes for buttons and slip fit into recesses.
Just to add for clarity…
Previously i had just visually centered the XY zero over my fixture. I set it once and have only ever changed Z zero after that initial XY zero.
The issue is with the flip side of a double sided part where the covers fit into pockets on my fixture.
I don’t have a good answer for how to re-find the zero. Maybe you can jog to something you cut, and then (based off of measurements in Carbide Create) do some math to jog back to zero and then reset Zeros in Carbide Motion. Sounds risky, but that’s the best I can come up with.
Something else struck me in your message… I always Zero off the stock, and almost always (unless it’s a round piece of stock) off the lower left. I use BitZero there, and even if I take the piece off, I can always find the zero. Sometimes I’ve found that re-initializing the machine changes the zero slightly, so using the stock seems to me to be the safest way.
yeah, bottom left corner will be my new zero… just waiting on my BitZero v2 to get here.
