No matter which toolpath I use, when I start to run the job all the machine, a Shapeoko 4XXL, wants to do is drill completely through the material. I began to run a simple pocket, when it got to the beginning point it drilled straight down until the collet was getting pressed into the material and the bit got so hot it charged the wood before I got everything turned off.
I have checked the tool specs and it is set for .25 max depth and a plunge rate of.050.
I’m not sure if it is a code process issue or a controller board issue.
Make sure all your setup settings are correct, Ive been fighting with my ProXXL for awhile now and there are so many variables to consider. I keep running into bad electrical connections causing my machine to go into “clueless mode” and then it freaks out. Definitely check the connection to your Z axis motor, I just realized mine was getting super hot and found a bad connect which was causing it to lose connection mid job and “bury the bit into my project”, and then Motion would just crash. It would also not initialize for a couple of cycles and then after fussing with some things, it magically would initialize. This of course caused me to have to reload the configs to the machine. I also just tightened all my belts and it seems I am back in business until the next issue, which there will be always. Hope this helps.
If it happens every time - check your Z Zero settings. This is the behaviour you get if your design has Z Zero at the top of material, but on the machine your Z Zero is the bed.
If that doesn’t address your difficulties, send a .c2d file, generated G-code, step-by-step notes on how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing all tool changes and a photo showing an attempt at cutting still in place on the machine to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll work through it w/ you.
