Machining initial tutorial wrench -- wrong material?

trying to machine the wrench using the provided stock. doesnt look like aluminum. its a grey plastic of some sort ? anyone know if its supposed to be an aluminum plate or did i get the wrong stock with the machine ?
its a bendy grey plastic with white plastic stuck to it which peels off along with the carpet tape.

What came with my machine looked like Alumalite (marvelous stuff; use it for the walls of my enclosures), an aluminum composite material. Clearly not Al alloy plate and not simple plastic.

+1 on the Alumalite, @mbellon! I used it in my Tormach enclosure.

Alumalite is corrugated plastic laminated with thin aluminum face skins.

I think the sample piece is something like Omega-Bond (also from Laminators, Inc. who make the Alumalite) with a solid plastic core laminated with the aluminum face skins. At least on the Classic, that also appears to be the deck material beneath the moving table.

Omega-Lite?

Yes, that is a better fit for what I remember.

What you have is what we all got - so you’re okay

Cutting aluminum is tricky so it makes a lot more sense to start with a much softer material.

Are you planning to cut a lot of aluminum?
