Making a Plaque for a Friend

A friend asked me to make a plaque for him. My friend is a TAMU Veterinarian Graduate from 1965. One of his classmates recently passed away and they will present this to the man’s widow. I will be filling the carving with some epoxy and then cover the whole thing with table top epoxy. It is due by June so I have plenty of time to get it finished. The project took 8+ hours to carve.

The cutting board is mesquite with natural edge bark. Should look good when finished. I need to go over to Hobby Lobby and get some cream colored dye for the epoxy. I have white but I think cream colored would be better.

It’s a charming design. If the recipient is going to actually use it as a cutting board, I don’t think you should coat the whole thing with epoxy. The epoxy will get scratched up, will dull knives, and may put small shards of epoxy into food.
