I installed my HDZ on March 22, 2020. The HDZ has been great. I have had oil drip from the guide rails on 3 occassions. Luckily two of the projects were only test cuts. Today I cut a Marvel Aztec Calendar and luckily a big drop of oil dropped on the outer rim of the project. Tomorrow I will cut out the outer circle so no harm done. I have wiped the rails off 5 or 6 times and there is still oil dripping down. Just beware of this with new HDZ installations.
Yes, the guides and ball screw receive a light coating of oil during the course of assembly — the variable seems to be how much grease is packed into the ball bearing units and whether or no ambient temperatures are warm enough to bring the oil out.
So far the temp in my shop has not been above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Soon it will be in the high 90s-low 100. So hope this ends soon because summer is not far away here in East Texas.
It would be interesting to know just how hot / warm those ball bearing units actually get. I would think they would have to be measurably hot / warm to liquefy the grease enough to ooze out.
I installed my HDZ a few days ago. Got one spot as it was being installed. We then had a few warm days and I did get several spots on the waste board. Guess I’ll start wiping it down and maybe catch a good bit before dripping on a project.
