Model component depth information

So I created a 3d model for the police badge that looks fantastic. Yeah me… I ran the toolpath rough and toolpath finish through the sim. Looks like dodo. So my thought is to create individual toolpaths per layer. Where can I see the defined data, i.e. depth of each component, that I created using the model tab?

When making toolpaths you most likely only need to select the outer/surrounding geometry and allow the 3D toolpaths to remove everything w/in — if there is additional geometry selected it will exclude the tool from those interior islands.

Ah, so do a rough and finish for each layer?

Will is suggesting to do the entire part in one shot, rather than split it into layers.

For this design, it shouldn’t make a difference. Splitting into sections/layers can be effective if the part has parallel ridges where you’d want to cut on an angle parallel to the ridges rather than across them. Or if you have some areas with low detail, and others with high detail, you can use different tools & stepovers to save time.
In your case, the entire part is pretty high detail, so separating toolpaths won’t help much.

What are the tools & settings you used? And what to you mean by “Looks like dodo”?

Tod my first go at the toolpath was trying to do it all in one go. I ran the sim at least a dozen times trying every tool and tool combination I have in the library. They all looked like dodo, meaning really bad. By cutting by layers with various tools this is where I’m at right now. Overall time is not to bad either. Not sure why I’m getting the small stick ups though. With this run I am using all stock settings. Plan to tweak those a bit.

What geometry are you including? Post the current state of your file?

I think this is what your asking for?

or

For tool paths the above image included everything. I started at the Top of model and worked my down incrementally as it made sense using the layers I created as a guide. The last tool path being the cut out.

Now that I look at it in this view, the stickup along the sides are probably left because i used a 1/4" endmill which won’t fit into those tight corners of the fan. The others kinda have me stumped though, as each of those areas were milled in previous passes.

Here is a better view
