Model Function and Changing Board Thickness

After a lot of Trial and Terror, I think I have my moose ready to be cut. Simple question: If I change the thickness of the board, do I have to redo all of the Model Components?

Second question: Am I better off using Bottom for the Zero Height when creating something primarily with the Model Function? I’m used to using Top and am getting a little tired of screwing up things.

You might. If the model exceeds the thickness of the board, yes. If the board is thicker than the board specified when you created the model, you should only have to place it as you prefer within that boards measurement.

I prefer to zero off the the spoilboard. I rarely cut into it. A digital caliper is your friend.

Thanks. Think I got lucky!

If the finished height of the job is critical, and you will have varied thickness stock, then programming from the bottom & allowing for the thickest stock would give you a program that will work. You may cut some air on thinner boards, but you won’t have to go back to the proverbial drawing board…

If the design is cut into the top regardless of thickness, then program from the top. Set your zero to the flat surfaced top, and the design will be cut the same depth. Just the base height will change with stock thickness.
