I’ve spent the past several days doing a crash course in CC Pro Model courtesy of a tutorial shared by Will. My immediate goal is to create a relief image of a moose (a real one) based on a very shadowy picture of - you guessed it - a real moose. Unfortunately, the moose was in the shadows when the picture was taken, so no prayer of getting gray tones for 3D.
Intent is to put the moose in an oval frame roughly 9 x 14, all carved from one piece of wood about 2" thick. After looking at Model Show 3D ( being at least somewhat satisfied with what I saw) for countless hours, I decided to take a break and see what the results looked like in the Toolpaths Show Simulation. Eeeek! Aside from the fact that if I use a 1/8 end mill for the Rough Cut it will take something like 17 hours, and use a 1/16" taper (simulating a 1/16" ball nose) for the Finish, the Simulation looks like crap. And "Yes, system is set to High Res Simulation.
I’m attaching the PNG screenshots from both the Model and Toolpaths.
You selected all the vectors for your 3D paths. Only select the outermost, oval vector.
The vector in a 3D path is the boundary. In this case you want to cut the whole thing.
I had some 3D carvings that I was working on and due to the amount of detail in the carving and the size of the tool I was forced to have to use to make sure the detail stayed, the run cycle ran way past 12 hours. The return verses time wasnt worth it.
