Hi All Super excited to finally to have purchased a secondhand shapeoko with less than a handful of hours on it. The seller demonstrated a simple cut with carbide motion before I purchased, but since I have moved it and am plugging away I canāt seem to boot it to simply jog with my Macbook Pro 2019 10.15. Dāoh!
Am I missing something inherently obvious? Green and red lights and limit switch lights are firing on the board. Iāve so far been using Carbide Motion 5 & 4 and UGS with no luck. If anyone can decipher this log it would be a huge to help me get started on my wayā¦
Shapeoko 3?
Those settings donāt match what they should be. Was the firmware updated after you saw it run?
Youāll want to āsend configurationā in Motion.
I have, same raw deal. Also tried on an older macbook air (thus not needing any usb adaptors. Whatās strangest to me is that the mac seems to be picking up the active state of the machine, and I can prompt generic help and info from the board but both USC (I have the baud set to 115200) & Motion is not allowing any GRBL codes to be sent back
Perhaps in transit you had some cables loosen up. Go and pull your controller cover and check each connection. Also check the connectors on the switches and the motors. And as Neil Ferreri suggested power up and go into settings after connecting and send the config. You usually only have to send the config once but since it is new to you treat it like a new one.
The GRBL settings (all the $x=y things) are very close to generic grbl defaults. At some point, that changed. It probably wasnāt on the truck, but maybe you sent something in UGS that reset it? The weirder thing is that the settings are not ALL default. The $100 = 128 is the one that stands out. Thatās the X-axis steps/mm, and for an SO3 all axes ($100, $101, & $102) should be 40.000.
I donāt know much about Macs, but the errors mostly seem like theyād be caused by serial communication issues.
Thanks for sticking with me guys, tried joggling all cables, things progress strangely; if I push the x&y axis to engage the limit switches then I can āinitialise the machineā in Motion 5, although now Iām getting a mix of error:20 Error:5 Error:23 and Error:36. I pulled the router completely out of there in case it was interference but nope
This is really weird. Can you send $$ to get your settings again and paste them here. I just realized that you donāt have homing enabled ($22) which is why an error #5 would show. Is this only with Motion?
At some point, since you started this thread, a reset of the grbl config settings was doneā¦ I donāt know if UGS has that option, but I donāt think Motion does. Basically, sending $RST=$ will reset to the installed configuration defaults.
Yep, you are right, I did send the command $RST=$ through UGS earlier today as a feeble attempt to rectify the issue. So something is clearly getting through to the board when it wants to.
$22=1 leads to a Error:3
