Multiple Errors with First Homing Cycle

I just assembled my new pro xl and attempted the homing cycle for the fist time. First thing that happens is the z axis begins moving down and then stops with the following error messages. "Limit switch error z "followed by “Grbl homing failed pull off didn’t clear”. I checked my wiring and I’m pretty sure everything is correct. In the active input section of carbide motion, it’s showing Z as always active with a blue light next to it on the control board. The 3 homing switches all light up red when I put a wrench next to them. I also set my machine to pro xl in carbide motion . Any thoughts as to what’s going on?

Please contact support@carbide3d.com

Suspect a bad Z-axis homing switch, or wrong wiring in the extension.

Thanks, I already have a email into support and waiting to hear back.

After sending a video of my problem to support, they think its most likely a wiring issue with the z axis motor so they are sending a new set of extensions. While I’m waiting for them to arrive, can anyone suggest any other trouble shooting steps i should take just in case its not as simple as a bad wiring?

Have you checked for EM interference from your Dust Collector? Had this issue a while back.

Thanks for the suggestion but i haven’t even got to hooking up the dust collector yet. I wanted to test out basic machine functionality first. C3D have already sent the replacement wiring so hopefully that will fix the problem. I’ve been going through a lot of forum posts and it seems the majority of issues people experience are wiring/connection related.

So I got my new z limit extensions from c3d but unfortunately I’m still having problems. With the new extensions plugged in, the z light is no longer lit on the control board but while the switch itself still lights up when placing a wrench under it, it is not lighting up on the board. When i tried to initialize the machine again, the z axis almost crashed into my waste board but luckily i shut it off before it hit. I’m also now having an issue with the x limit as well, its blue light is now on on the board and showing as active in the active pins in Carbide Motion. Any thoughts on why the z limit is still having issues and why new z extensions would effect the x? Just out of curiosity i plugged back in my original z limit cables and the x limit seems to function again. I have another email into support but i thought id ask here as well.

I recently got a Pro XL, and when I first connected it up, I got the same result that you did initially. During troubleshooting, I saw that the blue LED on the control board for the Z axis proximity switch was lit constantly, which led me to discover that the wiring harness attached to the proximity switch was wired backwards. (I forget the colors, but basically the red and green were swapped).

Fortunately, it’s possible to plug the harness into the connector upside down (I think black was in the middle), so that’s what I did, and now it works fine.

I am having the same issue.

I can’t home my machine and I always get the error message related to the limit switch.

Did someone at Carbide 3D help you? If yes, can you share his/her name?

Thank you.

Anyone who has difficulties should please contact us at support@carbide3d.com

The connectors should be keyed so that they can’t be plugged in wrong — could you send us a photo of the one you managed to get turned around to support@carbide3d.com ?

I’ll double check to see if that’s possible with my wiring, thanks for the tip.

I’ve been In touch with a few people from support, just send them an email and you should hear back soon from someone who can help. After a new set of z extentions didn’t solve my problem, support is sending a new z limit switch that should hopefully fix it.

Hello William,
I sent you an e mail several hours ago. Can you please help me?

thank you and regards,
Pablo

Well, I have been in constant communication with the Carbide 3D support personnel.
I have followed all recommendations.
I have taken pictures and video every time.
Issues continue, no improvement.
I check the 3 limit switches before starting the initialization and they work. Red and blue lights lit up.
So, the limit switches work
Very frustrating.
The Carbide 3D support guys have not mentioned anything about changing extentions.

The Carbide 3D support guys have not mentioned anything about changing extentions nor limit switches.
I expect Carbide 3D to fix the issue for good.

We will fix this as quickly as we can work out the correct process.

It is frustrating when it doesn’t work out of the box. It sounds like my problem might be different then yours, I’m not getting the blue light on the board when I tap the z censor which leads support to believe it’s a connection issue.
