First step - find out which limit switch is having problems.

  • While machine is OFF, move it so that you are absolutely sure it is not near the limit switches.
  • Power on machine and connect. DO NOT INITIALIZE.
  • Under settings there should be a page that shows the state of the inputs. See if one of the limit switches is listed there.

If so, you have a limit switch that is stuck ON. Contact support.

I’ll try this in the morning thanks for the tip

Under Settings Menu, “Debug”. That will show all inputs. Even the BitSetter if you push the plunger down.

Wouldn’t it be nice to know what machine the OP has?

Try support@carbide3d.com.

I’m having the same issue right now. It looks like a bad connection to the YL motor, if I touch the wiring connector at the motor, I can hear the motor clicking. Why does Shapeoko use such cheap wiring connectors? I had this problem on several connections when I assembled it. My machine is a 4XXL

I did this

Thank you all for your input. So far none of the things suggested are wrong with the machine as far as i can tell. All of the connections seem tight and all the machine parts seem to be tight. when I put an allen key next to each of the sensors they light up when the key is very close and go off when its removed. I hope support gets back to me soon. I really want to love this machine and when running its amazing.

I just had a very similar instance of this happen on my S4 SL. Try this as a test.
Pull the router out away from the switches and turn on the big blue button. Each side of the gantry should be ‘locked’ in place. Does one side or the other move slightly? IF SO, you should contact SUPPORT and go through all of their ‘tests’ to see WHAT is wrong.

I pulled the belts for the “Y” motors, checked continuity on the motor cable to the side that moved. That was good. They then had me go through other processes.

I was pretty sure that I had a bad motor. After all of their ‘tests’, YUP, I had a bad motor. The new one is presently sitting on my desk ready to reinstall it and the belts.

I put in a suggestion that they use AI in a Self-Test operation and add that into new software releases - but that is a far future thing if it ever happens.

The machine did pass all the tests while still not passing its own test so I figured maybe it just needed to be reinstalled. So I did reinstall it and it seemed to fix the problem. It has initialized about five times since then with no problems but I really want to say thanks for the input. It’s great that everyone has each other back here. !
