i am trying to create a serving tray, based on some tutorials I found on this site. I am having a strange problem. on the Model tab, my bowl looks fine. It has a couple of rough edges, but nothing horrible. However, when I created a 3D Rough Toolpath, it has some notches in the edge of the bowl rim on the TOP file, and I can’t figure out why?
I am including the TOP and BOTTOM of the serving tray, but the issue I am facing is in the TOP.
Bonus points for any other pointers, which is why I included both.
edit: extra bonus points - why can’t I edit my existing models angle and height after I create it? I’m having to take screenshots to remember what values I put in?
I am having some trouble figuring out how to subtract from the top like that. I am creating a new model by choosing the two rim ovals, giving it a height (which doesn’t seem to matter), and then setting the base height to make it go towards the top. But it seems to subtract from the bottom and not the top. Can you elaborate on how you made that subtraction?
I think i realized my mistake on the image you shared, you had it rotated upside down. Sorry i missed that.
So to be clear, I want to keep the rim - so the bowl has a rim. I added a new cutout around it though, which doesn’t seem to want to toolpath correctly. This is using a contour, so i could use tabs. I have been using pocket, but that isn’t always safe.
I think the issue may lie in my rim being bad, although im not sure how to fix it. Even with a full pocket cutout of my new version, it still has artifacts. serving-tray-top.c2d (1.7 MB)
sorry for all the posts! it seems to look a lot better with 3d finish vs 3d rough. the only problem i think i have remaining is the contour not cutting out entirely
