My Table Submission

Here is my “yet another table” submission. I ran 2x4s through a planer and table saw to ensure they were mostly straight and of the same dimensions. I was going to do a torsion box, but figured the top was stiff enough with 3/4" (7 ply) plywood and the 2x4s. I put two 2x4s at right angles to make the legs and built in storage to the bottom. The table feels very solid, but shifts/rolls when the machine gets moving good. I might make some kind of wheel chalks to keep things stable.

Overall I am happy with the machine so far, but a little shocked at the quality control. I got sent the wrong spindle and a controller board with the limit switch headers soldered upside down. They got me the right/working parts eventually, but I bet all that overnight shipping wasn’t cheap on their end.

On happier news I was able to get a few tech priests of the adeptus mechanicus over and after a few weeks of sacred rituals and applying holy oils I was up and running. Hail the Omnissiah my limit switches finally work!

Lastly, this thing is so big it could cut out a whole toddler. No seriously, the build area is bigger than my son.

Hope the table design gives someone inspiration. I am off to decide which projects I am going to jump into next. Hard to decide!

To be facetious, I bet the table cost a pretty penny.

The scrap ply will look good when you cut it on your machine, sweet 7 ply. Have fun with it. Oh and teach your understudy how to run that machine. He will have ideas you will never think of.

The top and bottom shelf were basically a full sheet of plywood, and I think I used 8 2x4s. That comes up to about 150 for the wood. I had the casters from something else, and the other minor shelving was scrap bits. You could call it 200 bucks total if you didn’t have anything to start with. Certainly not cheap, but the higher grade plywood is really flat and stable compared to the cheaper stuff. The table feels super solid and has a lot of storage potential.
