I was about to finish a job when my laptop battery died and then updated windows 10 when i plugged it back in. At that point i got an error that usb not detected. I tried multiple ports, another cable and another device with he same outcome. I sen a message to support@carbide3d.com, that was on Oct 20th, no response. How long do i wait for a response? Did i email the right address?

windows 10 usb issue
Usually, we respond quite quickly.
Let me know your e-mail address in a PM and we’ll look into this.
That said, as noted, this is a Windows issue, and Windows 10 has been end-of-lifed (unless one signs up/pays for further security updates) — is a new EDIT computer (not machine) an option?
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support October 14, 2025. They will not be issuing any more updates or security updates. There are some exceptions but they are all about if you pay and that only lasts one more year.
Windows 11 users are not escaping the EOL of that version. 24h2 will be end of life October 13, 2026 and you would need to be at 25h2 or higher or you wont get updates and security fixes. Government and Education get an additional year.
I started out with MS-DOS and progressed with Windows 1-11. Each version has had its problems. Recently Windows 11 had an update that was wiping out solid state drives with certain controllers. Microsoft has been so defective for so long and yet is one of the biggest companies in the world. Their failures are monumental and yet they are still with us. The MAC OS systems has had its own failures. So here we are at the whim of a giant mega corporation that dictates when it will support and what it will support. Sad but true.
When I bought a new laptop with Windows 11 after the last one had 10 I hated 11. I have gotten used to it but liked the Windows 10 interface better.
The problem with updating an older computer from 10 to 11 is there are certain CPU features you must have to upgrade. There are some hacks around the update but they are hacks ad eventually Microsoft will catch up to you and kill your computer. Sad but true.

A new machine? Meaning new shapoko or computer? Regardless, neither. Are you suggesting i need a new cnc?
No, I meant new computer.
Does the USB port work for a stick or any other device ?
My understanding is the USB connection on our controllers is intended for serial communication.
Man i dumped $1200 clams on that computer. A Panasonic toughbook to be the last laptop i ever bought. The point your making is a need something torun windows 11?
No, I am not saying you need a new computer, just that it would be worth trying.
(our system requirements still list Windows 10)
Before you throw in the towel try going to MS Windows 11 site:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
From their site the following:
Before you begin, check to see if the following conditions apply to you:
You have a Windows 10/11 license.
Your PC must have Windows 10, version 2004 or higher installed to run Installation Assistant.
Your PC must have 9 GB of free disk space to download Windows 11.
Your laptop may be able to run Windows 11. Just do a good backup to multiple locations before trying to update. The ISO image has the most current updates so you dont have to suffer through update after update.
